Each of the four skills is scored 10–90 and mapped to CLB independently — a score doesn't need to repeat across skills to count.

Your overall CLB
IRCC uses the lowest CLB level across your four skills for most programs — so your weakest skill sets your overall benchmark, not an average.
CLB 7 is highlighted
CLB 7 is the common minimum for Federal Skilled Worker and many Express Entry pathways — the row above is marked for quick reference. Always confirm your own program's exact requirement on the IRCC website.
Scores below CLB 3
A score under the CLB 3 range in any skill (below 18 Listening, 24 Reading, 34 Speaking or 32 Writing) doesn't meet any listed CLB band on this chart.

Where does this chart come from?
Directly from Pearson's official PTE Core Test Taker Score Guide (January 2026) — the same alignment table Pearson publishes for converting PTE Core scores to CLB levels.
Does IRCC average my four skill scores?
No. IRCC looks at your CLB level in each skill separately, and most programs require you to meet the minimum in every skill — so your lowest skill is what limits your application.
What CLB level do I need?
It depends on the program — Express Entry, Permanent Residency and Citizenship each have their own requirements, which can change. Always check the current requirement on the IRCC website, or book a free call and we'll help you work it out.
Which course gets me from my current score to my target?
Depends on the gap and your test date. See our PTE Core courses or book a free consultation and we'll recommend one honestly.
